This year's Nutcracker Lollipop Matinee is on Saturday, December 7 at 2 PM. Tickets are available here.

Each year, The Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and NAU Community Music and Dance Academy perform The Nutcracker Ballet. Along with two regular performances, there is a Saturday "Lollipop" matinee performance that is geared toward kids. This performance is only the 2nd half (Act II) of the show, keeping it short and sweet!

Little Music Makers of Flagstaff is not affiliated with either of these organizations. This page is meant to provide a starting place for my Little Music Makers who are attending the Lollipop performance. Please also keep in mind that the interpretation of the storyline varies with each production of The Nutcracker.

Before you see the performance:

  • Enjoy this Spotify Playlist made up of the music you will hear at the Lollipop Matinee of The Nutcracker.

  • Join Miss Jody in these two movement activities using music from The Nutcracker.                                            1. Trepak (Russian Dance) 2. Nutcracker March
  • Grab some scarves (or dishtowels!) and move to "Waltz of the Flowers"(#10) or "Dance of the Sugar Plum, Fairy" (#13) on the playlist.

Parents' Guide:
  • CONGRATULATE yourself for bringing your child(ren) to the performance!

  • RELAX: The audience will be full of other children...this takes the pressure off of your children to be perfect audience members. Take a deep breath and enjoy the performance!

  • EXPLAIN: It's okay to whisper explanations to your little one(s) during the show. If they need a project, ask them to find their favorite costume, find something for them to count, etc. to help them connect for each new dance.
