Jody McKay, Program Director and Teacher

Jody grew up in Southern Arizona, but then headed east after high school where she received a BA and MA in music education from Montclair State University in New Jersey.   Her primary instruments are French horn and piano. She has trained in Kodaly, Orff, Dalcroze, and Suzuki methods, and her primary focus of study has been in early childhood music education. After pausing her career of teaching music in the public schools of New Jersey to become a full-time mom while also moving back to Arizona, Jody is thrilled to be back to sharing her love of music with children! Jody created Little Music Makers of Flagstaff in 2017 and has written the curriculum for all of the classes.  She holds K-12 Music Teaching certificates in Arizona and New Jersey and is a member of Music Teachers National Association, Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, Arizona State Music Teachers Association, and Northern Arizona Music Teachers Association. Jody was a 2020 finalist in the category of Excellence in Education for the Flagstaff Viola Awards. Along with spending her time encouraging all of the little music makers in class, Jody loves being the mom of two children (ages 8 and 10), maintains a piano studio, is the Managing Director for the non-profit music group Master Chorale of Flagstaff,  and is involved in various community outreach projects for Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra
